LOCAL POLICE in Benidorm arrested two women accused of theft and apprehended seven other wanted individuals in a clean-up operation last weekend that targeted illegal encampments, principally used by groups of Romanian gypsies. The illegal camps were mostly located in woodland where bands of gypsies had set up makeshift shelters, food containers, chairs and mattresses, all of which were confiscated during the police raid. Surveillance began on Wednesday as part of the latest push to crack down on petty crime in the city.
