Welcome to the Indian Ocean

THERE ARE plenty of Indian restaurants in and around the Costa Blanca, but there are precious few which can claim to serve authentic British curries. The British curry has a style and a taste very much its own, and requires knowledge and training from the UK to be able to reproduce it properly. To taste a totally authentic British curry, cunningly crafted using spices imported straight from the UK, pop down to the Indian Ocean restaurant at Doña Pepa (near to Ciudad Quesada) and let Mohsin and his team take care of you.

Mohsin himself has been in the restaurant industry for 19 years, and I’m sure he will not mind if it’s revealed that is almost half his life he’s been doing the job he loves.  Indeed the family has been providing quality Indian food, first in the UK and now here in Spain, since 1985.  The family also have two very successful Indian Ocean restaurants operating in Britain.

EVOLUTION

There has been in Indian Ocean in Spain for 10 years, and the restaurant has been at its present location for 6 of those.  During that time the food has evolved, as has the British curry back home, as tastes and habits changed.  With 100 covers inside, and over 200 outside and on the terrace, the restaurant can handle pretty much any size party and is delightfully finished with a warm, Indian-themed decor.

As with any restaurant, the star has to be the food, and in that department the Indian Ocean does not disappoint. Their lunch menu is €6.95 and their evening menu is a very reasonable €9.95.

TASTY

We tried a chicken tikka starter, which was delightful and tasty; deep, but not overly hot, and exactly how a British chicken tikka should taste.  For a main, we tried Kurai chicken along with pilau rice. This was a slightly unusual dish for me as I don’t usually go for this type of curry but my goodness, was it tasty; it went down a treat!

The Indian Ocean is located in Doña Pepa, and can be clearly seen from the new roundabout on the Lemon Tree road. If you’re looking for a treat, or indeed have a yearning for a top-class authentic British curry, pop down there or call Mohsin and his team on 966 718 211. You won’t be disappointed.
